Our Pioneer Sign Language Students Awarded Certificates

It was all celebrations and excitement as our first Sign Language learners were
awarded certificates upon completion of their Beginners’ course: Level 1: Basic
Sign Language. The one month training (01 – 30 November 2022) was held at
Goethe Zentrum – Kampala language center in Kamwokya, Bukoto Street. Nine (9)
students applied to enroll although seven (7) were successfully completed the
course.

The course was conducted by Deaf Link Uganda (DLU) in partnership with Goethe
Zentrum – Kampala (GZK) and taught by a specialised Deaf Sign Language
instructor. We are extremely proud of this landmark achievement and convey our
appreciation to our partner GZK for their tremendous support, contribution and
encouragement all of which enabled this initiative to reach a resounding success.

The course has laid a foundation on which other training sessions will be conducted
to promote the Sign Language as a unique and dynamic language, equally
invaluable as spoken languages and a powerful medium that enhances inclusive
communities in Uganda.
