DLU Fundraising initiative
Deaf Link Uganda (DLU) was invited by partner Goethe Zentrum-Kampala (GZK) as
a vendor at this year’s Christmas Book Fair held on Saturday 3 December at Forest
Cottages, Naguru in Kampala. The event fit perfectly well in celebration of
International Day for Persons with Disabilities (IDPD), a United Nation initiative that
aims to promote an equitable world for all.
The IDPD theme was suitable for DLU’s fundraiser in promoting inclusive
development and economic empowerment for the Deaf. Our colourful stall was
operated by an All Deaf Team, led by DLU Programmes Manager, Nasser
Ssenyondo, who worked with a highly energized and enthusiastic team of Deaf
youth. Both visitors and customers were treated to an interactive and customer
friendly stall that boasted a variety of Arts & Crafts made by the Deaf.
It was both a sale and an Exhibition proudly displaying numerous acrylic paintings, African Kitenge
bags, decorative bottles and other artistic accessories. Taga Nuwagaba’s book,
Totems of Uganda: Buganda Edition was a key item in our sales!
The Book Fair atmosphere brought an exciting Christmas atmosphere and gave us
opportunities to interact with visitors, exhibitors and vendors; making great networks
with stakeholders. Participating in this annual event strengthens our resolve to
increase Deaf people’s visibility and advocate for inclusive development of Deaf
people in Uganda.
For those who were unable to physically attend the event, you can make orders for
Beautiful Art pieces, Awesome Christmas cards, Kitenge bags, Tie & Dye T-shirts,
decoration ornaments, etc.
This comes with Good Wishes from DLU to you all for a Happy Festive Season!
